9 Motivating Money Quotes

Sometimes you just need a little motivation to get things moving. These are some of my favorite money motivation quotes to help me bring better perspective to my financial goals for my family.

Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants. —Epictetus

This quote reminds me of my mom. We never had much growing up but she taught us to always be grateful for what we did have. This is something that I hope to pass along to my own children.

wealth means you have few wants

If we command our wealth, we shall be rich and free. If our wealth commands us, we are poor indeed. —Edmund Burke

We need to show our money who's boss. We do this by maintaining control over our spending habits and making smart choices that build wealth.

If we aren't managing our money well, we will certainly lose it.

Another way to look at it  is our wants and desires. Does wanting the biggest house, the best car and exotic vacations to impress others take command over us? Or do we appreciate what we have and live for love and family more than things?

controlling money

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. —Thomas Edison

There are so many opportunities around every corner. The trick is to recognize it as an opportunity.

I don't believe in luck.

I believe opportunities present themselves and we are either prepared for them or we are not. And then we work at them, or we don't.

Luck = (Opportunity + Preparation) x Work

Luck = (Opportunity + Preparation) x Work

opportunities are a great chance to work

Never spend your money before you have it. —Thomas Jefferson

Jefferson lived from the late 1700's to early 1800's and yet this quote is even more relevant today.

Money issues have always existed and will continue to exist. We need to learn to control our appetites for "stuff" and be patient in our spending. Learn to manage money better by learning to wait to make a purchase until you have the money for it ... not a line of credit.

Too many people spend money they earned... to buy things they don't want... to impress people that they don't like. —Will Rogers

How true is this! It makes me laugh!

The problem is I can spot these people a mile away and they don't impress me at all

To the person who's trying to impress me with all their fancy stuff ...

  1. I'm happy you are enjoying you're life. (At least I hope you are enjoying it.)
  2. I don't care.
  3. I'm enjoying my life too. Love my family. Love my friends. I don't need a lot of crap to make me happy. I don't think about you and all you're fancy stuff ... ever.

spending money wisely

It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan. —Eleanor Roosevelt

Wishing doesn't get you anywhere.

If it did my 5-year-old would currently be swimming in the ocean with dolphins  living the high life as a mermaid.

What does make a difference is a belief in yourself that you can reach your goals. It starts with a belief then moves to plans and finally into actions

That's what makes a difference.

create a plan

A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. —Lao Tzu

It's so easy to get excited about the end result, then quit when we haven't even gotten halfway there because the goal feels so far away.

Take the courage to begin, but plan your steps along the way. You can't drive from NYC to Los Angeles in an hour.

Give yourself time to reach your goals and give yourself a road map to get there.

It takes courage to begin, it takes planning to keep going.

take a journey a step at a time

Every time you borrow money, you're robbing your future self. —Nathan W. Morris

Debt costs more than just the monthly payment. You'll be making payments (plus interest) while you're money could be working on other things, like maybe you're retirement.

is borrowing money worth it?

It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more that is poor. —Seneca

It's fine to want a better quality of life. It's fine to want nice things. If you're willing to put in the effort and work for those things, even better.

It becomes a problem when nothing brings you joy and you keep wanting more. Even when you get more it won't be enough. Learn to appreciate what you have and treasure your accomplishments.

the poor man always craves more

These are a few of my favorites. I hope they bring some enlightenment to your mind and get you thinking on ways you can improve yourself to achieve your own goals.
